Many people chose to tint the windows in their car. Sometimes it is for vision purposely to reduce the amount of sunlight coming through the windows or for security reasons so people cannot see in to the car or van if it is carrying tools or equipment. Other people do it simply for styling.
There are strict rules on car window tinting and if not adhered to can mean that you get a fine and have to have the tints removed. You may receive a prohibition notice, stopping you using your vehicle on the road until you have the extra tint removed or even a penalty notice or court summons.
For cars made after 1st April 1985, the front windscreen must let at least 75% of light through and the front side windows must let at least 70% of light through. For cars made prior to this date the windscreen and front windows must let 70% of light through.
There are no rules for tinting the rear windows and windscreen on any age vehicle.
