Ten years ago, the idea of having a dash cam may have been laughed at. Why would you want to record your journeys? However, with ‘crash for cash’ scams occurring frequently and problems identifying who is to blame in even a typical accident, coupled with the ever-reducing costs of dash cams, now could be the time to invest in one.
Although insurance companies have tried to crack down on the ‘crash for cash’ incidents that have been happening around the country, they are still unfortunately still taking place and the fraudsters are getting better at covering their tracks. There are also cases of seemingly ‘normal’ people who are involved in an accident, panic at the thought of being to blame and give false details – or worse still, drive away without even stopping.
In the event of an accident it may take a few moments to even think about taking details, but with a dash cam you will likely have the details visible, as well as a recording of the incident. Even when the dash cam is facing the wrong direction to get footage, it is sometimes possible to piece together a timeline of events based on other clues such as noises.
Nobody wants to be involved in an incident but it’s worth being prepared for the worst – dash cams are worth considering.
