When it comes to car seats you need to know that you have the correct one to ensure that they are as safe as possible when travelling in a vehicle. There are a huge choice when it comes to car seats and they are often split into stages. New-born babies will often need a different car seat to a 5 year old for example. Although some manufacturers have designed seats that can be used from birth onwards. The latest law requires a child to be in a car seat from birth up until they are 135 cm or 12 years of age although many experts suggest that you should actually use a child seat until your child is 150cm tall.
For an child that is using a harness system in the car seat the harness should be level with their shoulders, with the harness fitting snugly around them. You should only be able to get two fingers under the harness. You should also remove all children’s outdoor coats when securing them in to a vehicle so the seatbelt or harness fits closely to them.
Some cars have built in booster seats which can be used from a certain age or height. The UK has now stopped producing booster seats but you are still able to use them if you have one.
