Investigating problems with your car

If your car develops a fault it may not be straight forward to find out what the issue is. Sometimes we know straight away what needs to be done to get the car back on the road such as a new tyre, new battery or simply lack of fuel, but other times it may enquire more investigation work to track down the underlying issue.
When you take your car to a garage they will often try to have a quick look or take it for a test dive to establish what the problem is. They may be able to say with certainty or they may say that they need to strip the car down and carry out further investigations. This work may or may not carry a cost with it depending on the garage and also the time they will need to spend on it. Some customers do not like paying for investigation work but it is not fair to expect a garage to spend hours working on your vehicle for no charge when they have other customers work to complete which they will get paid for. This is especially true if there is a chance that you will not have the repairs completed by them anyway.
