I am always very dubious about buying a vehicle with little or no MOT. If you are looking in to this, then I would strongly recommend that you get a mechanic you trust to have a good look over it first. Often cars are sold with little or no MOT when the owner has an incline that it will not pass and will require quite a bit of work to be done on it in order to get it to pass.

An MOT can cost anywhere between £15 – £45 so there really is little point in not MOT’ing a car if you are confident it should pass. Selling a car with a long MOT is a lot easier than selling one without and you are likely to get a decent amount more for it as people simply do not like taking the risk.

In many used car ads, the current owner often states that they cannot see it needing much to pass the MOT. If this is the case, then I would ask them to MOT the car first and if it passes you will buy it and pay the additional amount to cover the cost, this way you can be sure that you are not going to get stung.
